Dogs and cats have the heart quite similar to human’s i.e. it pumps blood and nutrition to other parts of the body. Severe heart problem might lead to death. Heart disease is closer to us than you know. Let’s get to know the heart of your dogs and cats and something about heart disease so that you can take good care of their heart, and make them most happy and healthy.
  • the first symptom that’s frequently found is dry cough, especially at night or in the morning
  • easily get fatigue or panting
  • enlarged tummy
  • faint
  • not lively, don’t want to move
  • get skinnier
  • never have, or have inconsistent heartworm disease protection
  • iin age range that’s in risk of heart disease i.e. more than 6 years old
  • history of heart disease in dog’s father or mother
  • fat
  • easily get fatigue when sucking milk and take longer time that other puppies or kitties
  • breath more rapidly than other puppies or kitties of the same brood
  • gain weight very slowly
  • frequently catch a cold or have pneumonia
  • in serious case, its skin might become blue



What caused enlarged heart?

Heart is an important organ in every living thing including dog. It pumps blood throughout the body and it is very strong. The heart starts beating since dog was still a fetus, and it keeps on beating until the end. Enlarged heart can be divided into 2 main types:

1.Thickening of heart muscle. Imagine a bodybuilding athlete who has very big muscle because his muscle works hard. Similarly, if heart muscle works too much, e.g. thickening of heart muscle, heart valves stenosis, heart muscle will be getting thicker
2.Enlarged heart muscle. This makes the heart looks like a balloon. There are many diseases that cause enlarged heart such as enlarged heart muscle and heart valves stenosis, etc.
