“ Many families have lost their beloved pet away prematurely by heart failure. “

Like humans, pet, whether dog or cat, is regarded as our family member and it can also suffer from heart disease. We should closely observe them for early detection and treatment to prolong the life of ourbeloved friends, enabling them to stay with us longer. One of the causes of heart disease is aging. Our dog may show signs that we can easily observe, such asbreathing difficultly and fatigue, coughing at night or seizure. The symptom can be detected by physical examination and listening to the sounds of its heart.
Electrocardiography and echocardiogram are used to detect any suspicious symptom to determine whether the dog should be treated and medicated to control the disease. Because heart disease is can gradually develop intoworse conditions.

Tao Huay is Pomeranian aged 11 years and 9 months. Tao Huay coughed and had difficultybreathing. After it was admitted for treatment, it was found that Tao Huay had chronic dry cough, wheezing, difficulty breathing and it had to open its mouth to breathe easier.Tao Huay was examined and its symptom included an abnormal heart sound, cardiac arrhythmias, loud breathing sounds and chronic cough

The examination also shows that oxygen makes the color of the mucous membranes look better. Additional diagnosis by radiography and electrocardiogram shows Tao Huay’s heart size bigger than normal and water inside its chest cavity with arrhythmias. It was concluded that Tao Huay suffered congestive heart failure.

Tao Huay was assisted by the medical team and admitted as a patient at Thonglor PetHospital for emergency treatment. Tao Huay was under intensive care under oxygen therapy 24 hours with constantpulse monitor. Tao Huay received medicines to stabilize its symptoms to prevent fatal heart failure until Tao Huay has recovered.

Currently, Tao Huay has returned home safely and become a regular patient of theCardio-Respiratory Care Center of Thonglor Pet Hospital, which closely monitors and provides regular treatment.
The most important aspect of pet care with heart disease is our attention because heart disease cannot be cured, in the same way as others. If the owners pay attention and follow recommendations of the veterinary physicians, visit and follow-up treatment, while providing regular veterinary care for the pet, they will give our pets better life quality and longevity to be part of our family.
